OCR: There are, however a few disadvantages. These include: 1) Most steam powerplants are relatively heavy, when the weight of the boiler is included. This is not true of all designs however. 2) Boiler cleaning, both on the "fire" and "water" sides is necessary, particularly when dirty or mineral laden water is used, or where poor fuels are available, (or good fuel with a poor operator.) 3) On condensing designs, the oil which is mixed with the steam going to the engine must be removed before the condensate is pumped back into the boiler.
